Video Accessibility — Captions, Transcripts and Audio Description Workflow

Video content is powerfulbut without accessibility, it can exclude entire groups of users. People who are deaf or hard of hearing need captions. People who are blind or have low vision often rely on audio descriptions. Everyone benefits from transcripts.

At DigiTechArmours, we follow a workflow that covers all aspects of video accessibility:
  • Captions: Accurate, synchronized captions that include not just dialogue but also sound effects.
  • Transcripts: Text versions of video content that allow for searching and reference.
  • Audio Descriptions: Narration that describes important visual details for non-sighted users.

Our sighted testers check caption readability and synchronization, while non-sighted testers confirm whether descriptions and transcripts provide equal access.

AccessMate complements this by checking metadata, player controls, and WCAG compliance (e.g., 1.2.2 Captions, 1.2.5 Audio Description).

For example, a training video might have accurate captions but lack descriptions of critical on-screen instructions. Non-sighted testers will point this out, making it clear the video is only half accessible.

At DigiTechArmours, we ensure video is more than just watchable it’s inclusive and usable for everyone. Because accessible media isn’t a nice-to-have, it’s essential.
